Harry Potter Comes To SCCC Library

Joe Denoyer - November 20, 2016 10:24 pm

The Seward County Community College Library is proud to present the exhibition Harry Potter’s World: Renaissance Science, Magic, and Medicine.

The six-panel exhibition explores the world of Harry Potter and its roots in Renaissance magic, science, and medicine. Among the sections covered are potions, immortality, fantastic beasts, monsters, magical creatures and herbology.

In 1997, British author J. K. Rowling introduced the world to Harry Potter and a literary phenomenon was born. Millions of readers have followed Harry to the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry where he discovers his heritage, encounters new plants and animals, and perfects his magical abilities.

Although a fantasy story, the magic in the Harry Potter books is partially based on Renaissance traditions that played an important role in the development of Western science, including alchemy, astrology, and natural philosophy.

The exhibition, which is brought to you by the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, runs from Monday, November 21 through Friday, January 6 and is open during library hours. It is free and open to the public.

For more information, contact the SCCC Library at (620) 417-1160.
