US-83 Project Resumes in Seward and Haskell Counties

Joe Denoyer - September 28, 2016 8:14 am

The Kansas Department of Transportation expects phase two of a resurfacing project on U.S. 83, from the US-83/160 junction in Seward County to the US-83/160/K-144 junction in Haskell County, to begin by Monday, October 3, weather permitting. This phase follows a recently-completed surface recycle and calls for a two-inch asphalt overlay of the driving lanes and shoulders.

J & R Sand Company, Inc., of Liberal is the primary contractor on the $5.9 million T-WORKS preservation project.

During construction, traffic will be limited to one lane through the work zone, guided by a pilot car. Drivers can expect delays of 15 minutes or less. The Kansas DOT urges drivers to be alert, pay attention to all work zone warning signs, slow down when approaching a work zone and be prepared to stop.

KDOT expects work on this project to be completed by the end of November, depending on weather.

If you have questions on this project, you can call Craig Schlott, Construction Engineer, at 620-276-3241 or Kirk Hutchinson, KDOT Southwest Public Affairs Manager, at 1-877-550-5368 (toll free).
