KDOT Working In Seward and Haskell Counties

Joe Denoyer - August 24, 2016 12:56 pm

Work has started on a resurfacing project on U.S. 83, from the US-83/160 junction in Seward County to the US-83/160/K-144 junction in Haskell County. The first phase calls for a surface recycle of the top two inches of asphalt and will be followed by a two-inch asphalt overlay.

Dustrol Inc. of Towanda, Kansas, is performing the surface recycle and working north from the southern junction of U.S. 83 and U.S. 160. The Kansas Department of Transportation expects J&R Sand Company, Inc., of Liberal to begin the second phase of the project in late September. J&R Sand is the primary contractor on the $5.9 million T-WORKS preservation project.

During construction, traffic will be limited to one lane through the work zone, guided by a pilot car. Drivers can expect delays of 15 minutes or less. The Kansas DOT urges drivers to be alert, pay attention to all work zone warning signs, slow down when approaching a work zone and be prepared to stop.

KDOT expects work on this project to be completed by the end of October, depending on weather.

If you have questions on this project, you can call Craig Schlott, Construction Engineer, at 620-276-3241 or Kirk Hutchinson, KDOT Southwest Public Affairs Manager, at 1-877-550-5368 (toll free).
