Armed Teen Forces Garden City School To Go Into Lockdown

KSCB News - September 1, 2009 12:00 am

A Garden City teenager forces a nearby grade school to go on lockdown.

The 18-year-old was walking with a handgun near Jennie Wilson Elementary in Garden City yesterday. Police officers responded and located the man in an alley shortly after noon.

Authorities say he asked the officers to shoot him, but later calmed down and disarmed himself. He was taken into protective custody and transported to St. Catherine Hospital for a mental evaluation.

The school was never under any immediate threat, and the lockdown was conducted for precautionary reasons only.
