Ramana C. Manzano

Romana C. Manzano, age 101, of Ulysses, Kansas died Saturday, May 21, 2011 at The Legacy at Park View in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born August 27, 1909 in Sain Del Alto Zacatecas Mexico, the daughter of Nolberto and Juana (Herrera) Calderon.

Romana married Nazario Manzano in 1928. She lived in Lamar, Colorado from 1979 until 2000; at that time she moved to Ulysses, Kansas. Romana enjoyed crocheting, reading the Bible, and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

She is survived by six sons, Robert of Ulysses, Kansas, Juan of Ulysses, Kansas, Sam of Denver City, Texas, Javier of Denver City, Texas, Joe of Ulysses, Kansas, Victor Manzano of OJ, Mexico; seven daughters, Ester Morales of Denver City, Texas, Socorro M. Tijerina of Presidio, Texas, Amparo Nevarres of Denver City, Texas, Irene Gutierrez of Juarez, Chihuahua, Lucila Rodriguez of Lampasas, Texas, Maria Elena Perez of Ulysses, Kansas, Rosie Salinas of Ulysses, Kansas; one sister, Amaleia Hernandez of California; 63 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Nazario in September 1979.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Ellis Morales officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, May 24, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a service beginning at 6:00 PM and Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a service beginning at 6:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home Chapel in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the donor’s choice of Ulysses in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
