Kansas ACT Ahead Of National Average

KSCB News - August 19, 2009 12:00 am

(AP) – A-C-T scores are in, and Kansas students

are beating the national average.

Results released today show Kansas students fared slightly worse

on this year’s A-C-T college entrance exam compared to 2008.

This year’s average composite score was 21-point-nine – below

the state’s score of 22 last year but above this year’s national

average of 21-point-one. It was the fifth straight year Kansas

students topped the national average.

Only 26 percent of Kansas test-takers met the college-readiness

benchmark in all four subjects: English, math, reading and science.

That’s three percentage points higher than the national average.

Compared to last year, Kansas students had small drops in

reading, math and English scores, while science scores held steady.
