Iron Grill Cook-Off At The Fair

KSCB News - August 5, 2009 12:00 am

-First there was Iron Chef Japan, then Iron Chef America. Now it’s time for Iron Grill Liberal! The International Pancake Day Board is sponsoring a new contest at the fair this year, the Iron Grill Cook-Off.

The contest, set for Sat., Aug. 8, is open to teams of up to four people per team. Each team will whip up its special recipe using pancake mix.

But there’s a catch. Just like the contestants on Iron Chef, the Iron Grill cooks will have to make use of a secret ingredient. The secret ingredient will be announced and provided the morning of the cook-off and must be used in the dish. Teams will have an hour to create their culinary masterpieces. Cash prizes will be awarded to first-, second-, and third-place teams.

Teams must fill out an entry form at the Tourist Information Center and pay a $20 entry fee per team. Contestants must be at least 12 years of age and each team must have at least on adult on it. Space remains for several more teams, so the deadline to enter has been extended to noon Friday. All entry fees will be distributed as prize money.

The Iron Grill Cook-Off is set for 10:30-11:30 a.m. Sat. Aug. 8, just east of the Seward County Event Center.

The International Pancake Day Board will also be cooking that morning, serving up free pancakes from 8-10 a.m. at the same location.

For complete rules or more information, stop by the Tourist Information Center, One Yellow Brick Road (across the street from the Coronado Museum and Dorothy’s House), or call 620-624-6423.
