Arkansas River Bridge Repair on K-27 Ready to Resume

KSCB News - July 27, 2009 12:00 am

The Kansas Department of Transportation expects a bridge repair project south of Syracuse to resume by Monday, August 3. The bridge, carrying K-27 over the Arkansas River, is about one mile south of Syracuse.

A crew from Wildcat Construction Company, Inc. of Wichita, Kansas, previously completed repairing the southbound lane and is now ready to continue working on the northbound lane. The project includes replacing the bridge rail, repairing the deck and expansion joints, replacing guard fence and resurfacing the bridge deck.

During construction, traffic will be limited to one lane across the bridge, controlled by a traffic signal. There will be a strictly-enforced 11-foot width restriction through the work zone. A temporary concrete safety barrier will separate traffic from the bridge work. Drivers with loads that are wider than 11 feet will need to seek alternate routes during construction.

Depending on the weather, the Kansas DOT expects the work to be completed in October.
