Liberal Residents/Satanta Woman Injured In Spider Related Crash

KSCB News - October 19, 2015 8:27 am

A Satanta woman, along with several others, was injured in a four-vehicle accident involving a spider that occurred Sunday afternoon in Barton County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, at about 1:33 p.m. Sunday, Diana Nicole Bell, 17, Claflin, was eastbound in a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am on U.S. Highway 56 about one mile east of Great Bend, when she noticed a spider on her lap, which she began swatting at, letting go of the steering wheel and causing her vehicle to cross the center line, striking a 2005 Jeep Liberty being driven west on U.S. 56 by Felix Perez, 62, Liberal. Perez’s vehicle bounced off Bell’s vehicle, striking a 2005 Dodge Caravan being driven eastbound on U.S. 56 by Charleeann Dailing, 33, Satanta.

Debris from that collision struck a 2010 Chevrolet Impala, being driven by Dean Bell, 53, Lansing. Neither he nor the passenger riding with him, Victor Oberle, 86, of Claflin, were injured in the accident.

All three drivers were transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital, as well as the occupants of two of the vehicles.

Patricia Roldan-Perez, 56, David Perez, 15, and Edith Rivera-Perez, 3, all of Liberal and all occupants of the Jeep Liberty, and Jerod William Dailing, 36, Nickerson, an occupant of the Dodge Caravan, also were taken to Great Bend Regional Hospital. Hospital officials would not provide their conditions.

According to the KHP, all drivers and passengers involved in the accident were wearing seat belts or safety restraints.
