Southwest Symphony Performs Sunday

Southwest Symphony Society Orchestra to present �??Music from the Movies�?�

> The Southwest Symphony Society orchestra will present its concert �??Music from the Movies�?� at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at the First Southern Baptist Church, 621 N. Western Ave., under the direction of Conductor Mark Compaan. The talented group of local musicians will play music featured in different movies. Admission is a free-will donation and refreshments will be served.

> �??We wanted to kick off this season with a fun concert and we know that people love and enjoy music from the movies,�?� said Compaan. �??The board members who provide the refreshments are also planning movie treats for the intermission and after the concert. This is a great concert to bring the kids as we show off what our local musicians can do.�?�

> The String Orchestra will start the concert with music from the �??Pirates of the Caribbean,�?� and �??The Godfather�?� and then play the James Bond Theme. The full Orchestra will play �??Forest Gump Suite,�?� selections from �??Phantom of the Opera,�?� selections from �??Fiddler on the Roof,�?� �??Suite from Star Wars Epic-Part2,�?� �??The Lord of the Rings-Fellowship of the Ring,�?� selections from �??Superman Returns,�?� and conclude with �??The Pink Panther.�?�

> Ensemble members include violins�??Bethany Adams, Chris Seeman, Blinda Massa, Megan Sims; viola-Alison Rice, Nancy Allen; cello- Annette Lemert; bass – Marilyn Ott; oboe-Alisa Henderson; flute-Claire Strachan, Andre Jones, Jerilee Rediger; clarinet- Shelly Rowson, Kim Slasor; bassoon-Lydia Augustine; baritone saxophone-Andrew Johnson; French horn and trumpet-Troy Skinner; trombone-Claire Wilson; baritone-Elizabeth Denoyer; percussion-Grant Mathews; and piano-Donna Apsley.
