Kansas Lottery Revenues Down

KSCB News - July 16, 2009 12:00 am

AP) – The Kansas Lottery reports a 2.6 percent

drop in sales for the fiscal year that ended June 30. That

translates to a $6 million decline in revenue.

The Lottery said Wednesday that fiscal year 2009 sales were $230

million, down from $236 million in fiscal 2008.

The Lottery also says it transferred $68 million to the state in

the latest year, about $2 million less than in fiscal 2008.

Lottery Executive Director Ed Van Petten attributes the lower

sales to several factors, including the tight economy and the lack

of big jackpots for Powerball and Super Kansas Cash. Van Petten

said Keno revenue dropped because many locations where the game is

offered became nonsmoking, driving away customers.
