Super Saturday Provides Insights Into Child Development

KSCB News - June 25, 2015 10:07 am

In partnership with the Liberal Area Coalition for Families and the Children’s Cabinet Trust Fund, Seward County Community College/Area Technical School’s office of Business & Industry will present “Super Saturday” classes beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the Student Union.

“Understanding Temperaments” offers insight into how a child’s innate individual temperament influences his or her interaction and experience of the world.

“This course will assist you in understanding the traits of various temperaments and how adjustments can be made in your approach when working with these various temperaments,” noted Director of Business & Industry Norma Jean Dodge. Led by Sarah Holmes, Kansas Child Care Training Opportunities Trainer, the session, which runs all day, from 8:30 to noon, may change how you approach learning, discipline and everyday fun with the children in your life.

The afternoon session of “Super Saturday” focuses on science and how to make it fun and engaging in everyday life. “Notice, Wonder, Explore … Science with Children” addresses how parents and teachers can support the thought processes that play a key role in scientific inquiry. It’s possible for anyone to create an environment that will encourage an interest in science, starting in early childhood.

The entire day’s course offerings cost $20 per person, thanks to grant funding. Some scholarships are available. Contact the B&I office at 620-417-1170 for more information.
