Registration Deadline Thursday for High-Value Crops Workshop

KSCB News - January 28, 2015 4:38 pm

It’s time to register for the Alternative and High-Value Crops workshop sponsored by the Seward County Community College/Area Technical School sustainable agriculture resources program. Instructor David Coltrain has organized a one-day, one-stop workshop for producers and farmers, or those who would like to get started. The workshop is set for Feb. 3, and registrations are due Thursday.

The Alternative & High-Value Crops event will offer a day’s worth of presentations designed to help all types of farmers, along with lunch and plenty of time to meet fellow farmers and ask questions. The event is co-sponsored by Extension offices in Grant, Haskell, Meade, Seward and Stevens Counties.

“We’re going to bring in some speakers who have learned how to farm successfully using innovative methods,” Coltrain said.

Coltrain has lined up sessions for all phases of farming. These include nuts and bolts of growing with minimum water use, extending the growing season, and marketing the products. His favorite? The session titled “The Return of the Small Family Farm.”

Cost to attend is $10, payable at the door, though pre-registration by Jan. 29 is required. To get more information, or to sign up, call 620-417-1354, or email [email protected] .
