Liberal City Commission Meets, OK’s Convention Center Project

KSCB News - January 27, 2015 10:23 pm

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday night and took steps that could possibly result in a new hotel and a Convention Center in the City. VAS Hotels LLC approached the City of Liberal wanting to add another hotel with a large convention center on the property that they currently own next to the Hampton Inn. Working with Economic Development Director Jeff Parsons and Bond Council John Haas of Ranson Financial, a package was put together to offer Industrial Revenue Bonds, tax abatements, and creating a Community Improvement District to the group pending Commission approval. The Commission unanimously approved moving ahead with the project that could lead to a new 80 room hotel and a possible 500-700 seat capacity conference center. There are more steps in the process, but the project is moving forward.

The Commision approved the final plat for the new Seymour Rogers Middle School and upgrades to the Water Departments SCADA system and approved the purchase of InfraMAP GIS software also for the Water Dept.

Commissioners also moved to a second reading, Ordinance 4449 which pertains to water Watch/Warning, Penalties and Fees for the City’s Conservation plan.

The commission also assigned the Franchise agreement with Wildflower Telecommunications to Zayo Group LLC as they purchased Wildflower Telecommunications.
