Deadline to Enter Pancake Day Talent Show is Jan. 13

KSCB News - January 5, 2015 11:07 am

Liberal, Kansas— Auditioning for Liberal’s Pancake Day Talent Show is easy this year; for the first time ever, contestants may submit video auditions online, mail in videos, or drop them off in person. But the deadline is fast approaching, so those interested need to act now.
Video auditions must be postmarked by Jan. 9 or uploaded to www.pancakeday.net or hand delivered to the Tourist Information Center in Liberal by 5 p.m. Jan. 13. All videos must be accompanied by an entry form and a $30 entry fee.
Talent Show organizers are seeking video auditions rather than hosting a preliminary competition in order to allow more folks to compete. The finals have also been moved to Saturday night, Feb. 14, 2015, which is the Saturday before Pancake Day.
"Our aim is to make the 2015 Pancake Day Talent Show more accessible to talented individuals from all over the area,” said Talent Show Chairman Sally Fuller. “We know that having to make two trips to Liberal and the finals being on a Monday night has made it harder for people from out-of-town who want to participate. They can now audition by video online and then come only one time to the finals on a weekend,” she added.
Talent Show organizers are expecting a larger number of contestants due to the changes, which could result in bigger prizes.
“We have also increased the minimum guaranteed prize money to $3,000 spread over the four categories,” Fuller said. “If our entries increase a lot then that prize money will also go up. The prize money comes from entry fees plus additional money added by the Pancake Day Board of Directors.”
Fuller also stressed that the Pancake Day Talent show is not just for singers and dancers.
“This is the talent show for everyone,” she said. “You can sing, dance, do dramatic readings, play the piano, hula hoop, perform Karate. We have had all those acts at one time or another through the years. So, video your talent, enter the auditions, and we hope to see you at the finals.”
Video auditions must be postmarked by Jan. 9 or uploaded to www.pancakeday.net or hand delivered to the Tourist Information Center in Liberal by 5 p.m. Jan. 13. All videos must be accompanied by an entry form and a $30 entry fee. An additional convenience fee of $2 will be added to online submissions.
