Liberal City Commission Meets, Says Goodbye To Retiring Firefighter

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday night and said goodbye to one of their own.Retiring after 13 years of service to the Liberal Fire Dept., was Terry Tanking. He was presented an award for his years of service,and his helmet as a keepsake. Along those same lines, the City also proclaimed October as Fire Prevention Month. The City also entered into a contract withy Civic Plus to build the City a new website. Construction and maintainence costs were $25,123.04. The City Commission agreed to pay $20,400.00 to Adolescent Support Services to start a Teen Court Program. This is contingent that USD 480 contributes the same amount as this will be a cooperative effort with the City, and County, which both have now approved the $20,400.00. The Commissioners approved a final reading a rezone from R-1 to R-2, a final reading amending a city code pertaining to bench warrants, and approved the First and Final Reading of Ordinance 4436 which pertains to Solicitors and Peddlers. Local licenses for peddlers and solicitors wiil be $1200 per year with a maimum of 10 employees subject to background checks. Non -locals will bee $100 per day or $500 per month per individual with a limit of 2 licenses issued per calendar year on a consecutive day or month basis. Ordinances regarding extending liquor store hours and allowing Sunday sales both died for lack of motions or seconds. The Commission authorized the Solid Waste Department to sell srapped out trucks to Maupin of Dodge City for $8,500.00, and heard a report on the Recycle Center in Liberal. A new and more user friendly location is being considered. Also approved were the expenditure of funds for continued renovations to the Air Museum theater.
