KDOT Secretary King Announces Highway Projects

Kansas Department of Transportation Secretary Mike King was in Liberal Thursday morning at the Rock Island Depot with a presentation to the audience that gathered at 9:00am. After a few brief remarks, King announced KDOT’s 2015 – 2016 Transportation plans. Included in those plans were projects in Southwest Kansas. Those projects include,Expansion of Highway 54 from a half a mile southwest of US 54/County Road O near the Ethanol Plant Northeast to 0.11 miles southwest of the US 54/Roadside Park Intersection. This project is scheduled to be let Jan. 15, 2016, will cover 3.59 miles with constuction estimates of $18,600,000.00. Other projects announced were at the 6 Points intersection, with a cost of $1,713,859.00, the US 54 Interstion at Clay Stret in Liberal at a cost of $1,480,050.00, and a Preservation Project on US 83 from the US83/US 160 junction North to the County Line. This Light Preservation Project is estimated at $2,398,000.00.

After the presentation, King took questions from the audience before heading to Wichita then McPherson where he made similar announcements. All projects can be viewed at the KDOT website.
