2 Vehicle Accident Claims The Life Of A Kismet Teen

A 2 vehicle accident occured Sunday evening at 11:40pm on Highway 54, 4.7 miles east of the Highway 54/US 83 intersection taking the life of a Kismet teen. A 2012 Ford F350 pick up being driven by James A. Dills, 42, of Alamogordo New Mexico, was west bound on Highway 54 when he crossed the centerline, striking head-on, a 2003 Nissan Altima being driven by Victoria Alina Varela, 19,of Kismet. The pick up came to rest in the east bound lane, while the Varela car came to rest in the eastbound ditch. Varela died at the scene of the accident. Dills was taken to Southwest Medical Center with injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
