Liberal City Commission Meets, Approves Changes In Housing Incentive

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm for their regularly scheduled meeting. Among the items on the agenda, the Commission approved the sale of a city owned parking lot to Conestoga Energy Parners LLC for $30,000.00 with the monies to be applied to the existing Lease/Purchase balance with Bank Of America. The Commissioners also gave Liberal Memorial Library the permission to build a walkway that will connect the library with their building at 5th and Kansas which formally housed Big Brothers/Big Sisters. The Library plans to use the building for childrens programming. Also on the agenda the commission waived the 90 day waiting period for the collection of housing incentives for developers of Spec Homes in Liberal, approved the purchase of hardware and software upgrades for the IT Department, approved the purchase of concealable body armor for the Police Department, and allowed them to sell old light bars to surrounding agencies. The City Commission approved the purchase of a pick up for the Water Department to replace one that had been in an accident, from Foss Ford of Liberal for the final amount of $18, 172.25, and the purchase of a hydraulic bar saw for $4,277.00. Commissioners also approved the 11th Street Water Line project between Stadium Road and Western Avenue, roofing repairs to a City owned building at the airport with the work to be done in house saving the taxpayers $6,700.00, and approved a lease between the City of Liberal and National Beef Packing Company. The next regular meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be May 13th.
