City Commission Meets, Approves Land Sale To Wilson Trailers

The Liberal City Commission met Wednesday eving at 6:30pm for their regular scheduled meeting. Among the items on the agenda, the Commissionapproved insurance renewal for the City with Al Shank Insurance with a reflected increase in premiums of over $67,000.00. This increase is primarily due to an increase in Workers Compensation claims over a 3 year period. In that 3 year period, claims have totalled over $539,000.00.The City Commission approved the purchase of a sprayer for the Cemetary in the amount of $7,995.00, the purchase of a mower for the Fire Department in the amount of $3,749.00, and appointed Verna VanDonge to the Liberal Housing Authority Board. The Commission also approved the 6 Points Project with the cost not to exceed $975,00.00, approved the immediate removal a structure at 310 S. Washington due to health and safety hazards, and approved the sale of 12.9 acres of land in the Industrial Park near Tucker Road to Wilson Trailers for the construction of a sales and service shop. This new company will employ locally 8-10 residents. After a 20 minute Executive Session, The Commission asked legal counsel to move forward with the investigation proceedings for the possible ouster of Commissioner Ron Warren. The investigation would be handled by the County Attorney or possibly the Attorney General’s Office.
