Winds,Blowing Dirt Cause Problems In The Area

KSCB News - March 19, 2014 8:10 am

A dust storm combined with strong winds closed US Highway 287 between Boise City and the Colorado state line for more than 6 hours Tuesday afternoon. The request to close the road was made by the Colorado Highway Patrol due to multiple vehicle crashes and zero visibility. Winds weren’t quite as strong as those that blew across the panhandles Saturday as the peak gust that day was 58 miles per hour in Goodwell. Tuesday the peak gust was recorded in Hooker with a 57. Boise City, Goodwell, Guymon, Beaver and Slapout also reported maximum wind gusts in the low 50s. Kenton topped out with a 49 mile per hour gust. In Southwest Kansas reported gusts were in the upper 50s.
