Olney Pancake Day Organizers To Attend This Year??s Pancake Day Events

KSCB News - February 23, 2014 7:47 pm

Special guests at this year’s Pancake Day events in Liberal will be long-time Olney Pancake Day organizers Tony and Viv Evans.
“We have been organizing Pancake Day for over 18 years and have been on the committee for longer, Viv said. “We are both strong members of the community and the Parish Church of St Peter & St Paul.”
Tony has been a Town Councilor for 40 years, and he and Viv served as Mayor and Mayoress for four years, “back in the 90’s, when we hosted Royalty in Olney when the Olney Centre was opened,” Viv said.
The Evanses have lived in Olney for over 45 years and are farmers, growing wheat, beans and producing turkeys for Christmas.
“We have a big family, which keeps us young at heart: five sons, eight grandsons and one granddaughter, ranging in age from six months to 21 years,” Viv said. “We live in a 350 year old farmhouse which has a rich history and for much of its life, belonged to the Royal Family.
The Evanses enjoy gardening, sports, sailing and travelling.
“With one son fully employed in the farming we have been able to do a lot of travelling in the last few years,” Viv said. They have been to India, Africa, South America and Canada. “Now we are very much looking forward to visiting America,” she said. “We are very excited at the prospect of visiting you in Liberal and joining in your Pancake Day celebrations.
Tony and Viv will arrive in time to attend beginning festivities on Saturday, Mar. 1, which will get under way at 9 a.m. at the Seward County Event Center.
