Propane Fire Causes Partial Evacuation In Elkhart

KSCB News - July 9, 2013 8:19 am

Some neighborhoods in Elkhart were evacuated after a large propane tank caught fire Monday night. But the fire has since been put out, with no one injured.

Morton County Sheriff Justin Holliday said a large propane storage tank at Bultman’s Inc. caught fire at 8:16 p.m. Holliday said something ignited as a pickup driver filled his tank. It’s not clear what sparked the fire.

Holliday said a section of Elkhart was evacuated as a precaution, south and west of Morton Street. This included a baseball complex and Morton County Health Systems. The evacuation reportedly ended by 10:45 p.m.

Holliday added the Kansas Fire Marshal will be in Elkhart Tuesday to determine what sparked the fire.
