City Commission Meets, Approves Sending Extension Request

KSCB News - June 26, 2013 8:22 am

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday night at 6:30pm for their regularly scheduled meeting. Among the items on the agenda, the Commission heard an update from Sally Fuller, Convention and Visitors Board Director, on the Kansas Sampler. Reviews and surveys turned in by vendors after the Sampler Festival painted a positive picture of Liberal, The Festival, and the Volunteers. Over 4500 were in attendance at the 2013 Sampler Festival in May. After several comments from citizens, including Rep. Reid Petty, the Commission approved sending a request to the Attorney Generals Office asking for an extension on HB2052 regarding conceal/carry in public buildings. If granted, the extension would be until January 1, 2014, and would allow the City to submit a plan to come into compliance with the bill. In other action items, the Commissioners approved the Police Departments application for the 2014 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, and approve the purchase of 7 computers for the department in the amount of $10,164.63. The City Commissions next Regular meeting is set for July 9.
