Kansas Unemployment Rises

KSCB News - June 21, 2013 8:23 am

More jobs are being created across Kansas. Yet new statistics show the unemployment rate increased in May.

The Kansas Department of Labor reported Thursday the May jobless rate was 5.7%, up from 5.6% in April. The increase is being blamed on schools closing for summer.

State officials add 8,700 new jobs were created in May. An economist said the leading growth areas were leisure and hospitality, professional and business services and manufacturing.
