Fire Burns North of Moscow

KSCB News - May 29, 2013 7:08 am

The pictures are bone chilling. A cornstalk bale fire in Stevens County near the Co-op in Moscow. The fire has been burning since about midnight Wednesday morning. Strong south winds are fueling this fire. More than 50 thousand corn stalk bails are on fire to the north of the Co-op and the city of Moscow. Fire officials say there is green wheat north of the fire line which they hope will help the situation. But a wind advisory posted for today could hinder efforts as winds are expected to gust as high as 45 miles per hour this afternoon. The bales burning are believed to be from a stockpile at Abengoa Bioenergy with several thousand more on site. Fire officials believe arson is the cause of the fire.
