Open Meetings Law Violated In Mullinville

KSCB News - May 6, 2013 8:07 am

The Kiowa County Attorney says Mullinville’s city officials need to take classes on the state’s open meetings law.

County Attorney Scott James says the council violated the law by firing a newly elected city council member from his job in the city’s public works department during a closed session.

He has asked Mullinville’s mayor, mayor, city clerk, four council members and the city attorney to take the classes.

James says last month’s firing of Rob Roberts was a technical violation of the law. He says tempers flared during the closed session and city officials forgot to follow the open meetings law.
