Rep. Petty Carries Transportation Bill To House Floor

KSCB News - February 13, 2013 4:37 pm

Rep. Reid Petty (R-Liberal) on Wednesday carried a transportation bill on the House Floor.

A member of the House Committee on Transportation, Rep. Petty carried House Bill 2011 during Wednesday’s General Orders. To “carry” a bill means the legislator from the committee of origination explains the bill to the entire body, then stands for questions from members.

“I commend Rep. Petty on a great job carrying the bill today,” said House Speaker Ray Merrick (R-Stilwell). “It’s important for freshmen to get involved in the process, and Rep. Petty is definitely stepping up.”

House Bill 2011 is a bill that would create state educational institution license plates for motorcycles.

The House approved the bill on a voice vote. A final vote is scheduled for later this week.

Representative Petty is currently serving his first term in the House.
