Guymon Hires Babb As Police Chief

The City of Guymon has announced Michael Babb as the new Chief of Police.
Babb started his career in law enforcement with the Guymon Police Department in August 1993, when he was hired as a Patrolman. In 1996, he began teaching the D.A.R.E. program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) in Guymon Public Schools.
In 1997, he joined the
Texas County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy and began to teach the county wide D.A.R.E program. In 2003, Babb accepted a position as a K-9 officer at the Guymon Police Department, was promoted to Lieutenant. in July 2003, and was later promoted to Captain in February 2006.
Babb was offered the position of Chief of Police in December and accepted.
“I look forward to serving the community and the department as Chief,” Babb said. “We have a great staff and I look forward to working with them, as well.”
Originally from Woodward, he has lived in Guymon 19 years and is married to his wife of 16 years, Stephanie, a first grade teacher at Guymon Public Schools.
Babb holds an advanced law enforcement certification from the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) and is a graduate of the 240th session of the FBI National Academy. He enjoys shooting as a hobby and in 2009 became a firearms instructor for CLEET, and is a Self Defense Act instructor. He is in the process of working with Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) to teach courses on Firearms for Beginners in the Spring of 2013.
The GPD has a staff of 27 employees, including the Animal Control Department.
