Love Named Chairman of Senate Ag Committee

KSCB News - December 15, 2012 7:12 am

*Topeka* – At 24 years of age, State Senator Garrett Love (R – Montezuma)
was named chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee for the upcoming
legislative session.

The Agriculture Committee deals with mostly farm and water issues.
Agriculture is the #1 industry in Kansas. Approximately 90% of Kansas land
is for agricultural use, and the state ranks high in wheat, grain sorghum
and silage production. Kansas also is a leader in beef production, with
more than 19 percent of all U.S. beef originating from Kansas beef
processing facilities. The state ranks third in cattle and calves on farms
and third in cattle and calves on grain feed.

“My family has farmed in western Kansas for 6 generations. We grow wheat,
corn, milo, and soybeans. We also background calves and have a small
cow-calf operation,” said Love. “Agriculture is a passion of mine and is
very important to our region, so I am pleased to be serving in this
position.”
In addition to serving as Ag Chairman, Love was also recently elected to be
part of the Senate leadership team as the Majority Whip.
