KSCB News - November 14, 2012 5:53 am

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) – The emerging winter wheat crop is now blanketing fields across Kansas.

Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Tuesday that 92 percent of the wheat crop has come up, about the same as last year but earlier than normal for this time of year.

The agency rates the crop’s condition as 4 percent very poor, 17 percent poor, 46 percent fair, 32 percent good and 1 percent excellent.

Harvest of fall crops is quickly winding down throughout Kansas. The agency says 94 percent of soybeans and 89 percent of the sorghum are now in the bin. About 83 percent of the sunflower crop has also been cut.
