Love Defeats Dunlap To Retain Seat

KSCB News - November 7, 2012 8:25 am

Garrett Love, the Republican from Montezuma, defeated challenger Johnny Dunlap II and will serve Southwest Kansas in the 38th District Senate seat for two more years.
“It’s an honor to serve the people of Southwest Kansas,” Love said, “and I am humbled and honored that they have given me another opportunity.”
Love said the key to his victory was getting out into the communities, knocking on people’s doors, making phone calls and talking to voters.
Dunlap, the Democratic nominee, focused his campaign on anticipated cuts to education, and he thinks the people who voted for him responded to his plan to ensure education funding didn’t suffer more.
Although he hasn’t thought much about running again, Dunlap says he probably will seek another office at some point.
“I ran because I care about the community,” Dunlap said “so I might run for a commission seat sometime in the future. But I think we can only get stronger from here.”
Love said that he is looking forward to his second term where he will focus on making Kansas the best state to raise a family or to run a business in. As well as bringing more taxpayers to the state, not more taxes for the taxpayers here now.
“I want to see growth and progress in Kansas,” Love said, “we haven’t had that in the past decade, so it needs to be a focus now.”
