Tour de Ted Rolls into Liberal

KSCB News - September 24, 2012 4:19 pm

Liberal is one of 13 communities participating in a three-state bike tour commemorating the life of Ted Jones, who was instrumental in opening Edward Jones’ first branch office.

The event lit up Light Park Monday with riders having the choice of a 14 mile, 25 mile, or 50 mile course all in the name of cancer research. Jeff Weeast at Edward Jones in Liberal helped set up Liberal’s portion of the event. As of Monday morning, Liberal residents had already donated almost seven thousand dollars to cancer research.

The Sportsguys broadcast their show live from Light Park Monday morning and talked with Weeast and cancer survivor Penny Pennington of Edward Jones in St. Louis.

The 13-stage tour, beginning Sunday in Colorado Springs and concluding Oct. 6 in St. Louis, is named Tour de Ted: Ride the Wire.

The tour will be in Dodge City Tuesday and Hays on Wednesday.

The route traces the path of a telegraph wire that stretched from Colorado to St. Louis in the early days of the firm, which was established in 1922. The event will help raise funds for cancer research.
