Patron Insight Releases School Bond Survey Results

KSCB News - May 19, 2009 12:00 am

A representative from the Patron Insight group from Stillwell, Kansas was in attendance at the USD 480 Board of Education last night to release the results of the telephone survey to determine why voters turned down the $61 million bond issue back on April 7. The survey consisted of 400 patrons of the Liberal USD 480 School District.

The survey used a 3-point weighted scale in which three points were given for each “most important” selection, two points for “second-most important” and one point for each “third-most important.” The points were then totaled together. The number one reason people voted “no” according to Patron Insight’s survey was because they were concerned about the economy in general. That received 618 points and was the clear primary reason.

The next three were some people didn’t think the district spends money wisely, residents didn’t want to spend the money for artificial turf at the stadium, and some people thought that a property tax was an unfair way to fund this. Those three reasons received, 311, 285, and 258 points respectively. Stay tuned to KSCB news this week for more information on the survey.
