Guymon City Ordinance Limits Use Of Fireworks

KSCB News - July 2, 2012 10:44 pm

A public fireworks display will top off July 4th celebrations in Guymon, despite justified concern amongst area officials. Public use of fireworks will be limited by Ordinance.
A burn ban was considered in detail for Texas County at the County Commissioners?? meeting Monday morning, along with City of Guymon officials, but the area falls just shy of meeting state statutes for such an order. As a result, the City of Guymon is moving forward with its public display of fireworks, set to begin around 9:30 p.m. behind the Henry C. Hitch Pioneer Arena.

The local area has experienced fires, and the City reminds residents that while there is no burn ban, fires are still a concern. Any resident electing to participate in personal firework displays, is reminded to use extreme caution and to follow the City??s firework Ordinance 725. The ordinance bans all fireworks prior to July 4 and after July 4. Aerial fireworks of any kind are banned all year. Legal fireworks on July 4 are limited to sparklers, cylindrical fountains, cone fountains, wheels, ground spinners, snakes, glow worms, smoke devices, party poppers, booby traps, snapper, trick matches and firecrackers not exceeding one and one-half inches in length and one-quarter inch in diameter. Any violation of these terms is considered a misdemeanor offense and illegal fireworks will be confiscated.

For more information, please contact the Guymon Fire Department??s Fire Chief Clark Purdy at 580-338-5536.
