Seward County Fire Deptartment Battles Grass Fire

The Seward County Fire department responded to a grass fire Wednesday afternoon at 4:20 pm at mile post 14 on US Highway 54. Approximately 120 acres of CRP grass burned in this fire that had trains shut down for 2 hours and threatened2 structures in the area. One firefighter had to be treated on the scene for heat related ailments. Seward County Fire Department had the fire under control with the last unit being put back into service at 10:27pm. SCFD received assistance from several farmers in the area and also the Turpin, Tyrone, Plains, and Balko Fire Departments. Seward County Road and Bridge, Sheriff�??s Office and EMS also assisted on this call.
