Life Sentence Upheld In Woodward Appeal

KSCB News - April 27, 2012 8:12 am

An Oklahoma appeals court has upheld the

life prison sentence of a man who was convicted of first-degree

murder for the shooting death of a woman in Woodward County.

The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals handed down the decision

Thursday in the case of 59-year-old Richard Wayne Conway. A

Woodward County jury found Conway guilty last year in the November

2009 shooting death of Cheryl Roberts.

Roberts was shot in the head while she was visiting Conway at

his home on November 3rd. Roberts died the next day.

Police say Conway told them that he became upset after he and

Roberts argued, and then he shot her.

Conway’s defense attorney, William H. Luker of the Oklahoma

Indigent Defense System, said he had not seen the decision and

could not comment.
