City Commission Meets, Selects Mayor/Vice-Mayor

The Liberal City Commission met Tuesday evening for their regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30pm in the City Commission Chambers. To start off the meeting, the Commission proclaimed April as Families Together Inc. month. During the Reorganization of the Commission portion of the meeting, the Commissioners voted 3-0 to keep Tim Long as Mayor and Joe Denoyer as Vice-Mayor. Long and Denoyer abstained from voting. The Liberal City Commission unanimously voted to enter into an agreement with the Mid-America Air Museum Foundation to partner with the Foundation to bring the "Dinosaurs Alive" exhibit to the museum in April of 2013. Also regarding the Air Museum, the Commissioners voted to accept a donation in the amount of $23,977 to kick off a Robotics Program for area youth. Schools, 4-H, and other groups from around the area have already expressed interest in participating in this program. Commissioners also set a Hearing date for the Condemnation of properties at 111 S. Calhoun and 635 1/2 S. Pennsylvania. Hearing date is May 22nd. Ken Thompson was also appointed to 4 year term on the Liberal Memorial Library Board, and the Commission also heard from Sheena Schmutz on Summer Youth Employment. Applications are available for Summer employment at City Hall. The next meeting of the Liberal City Commission will be April 24.
