Bomb Threat At Boise City Hospital

KSCB News - April 2, 2012 8:27 am

Cimarron Memorial Hospital was the target last Thursday, (March 22), of a bomb hoax apparently perpetrated from an Asian phone bank.
Sheriff Keith Borth said the incident began just after 6 p.m. with a phone call to the nurses station, informing them there was a bomb in the hospital.
Borth said the caller had an accent similar to that of a man from India, or Pakistan, and the called carried a 707 area code.
Hospital CEO Lee Hughes said that the incident apparently centered on a financial scam against a female hospital employee.
The young woman had apparently made some application(s) for credit and her personal information had been hacked. The calls then began first at her home and then at work making demands for money.
Hughes had several of the calls recorded and soon the man resorted to profanity.
“We had started calling him back telling him to cease calling,” Hughes said.
“When he started cussing we just started hanging up on him.”
“Then he called again after 6:40 and the call went straight to the nurses’ station. We had no option but to lock down the facility,” Hughes said.
Borth said his biggest challenge was how many patients and how to move them, “But with the recordings that Lee had and with a quick search we figured out it was a hoax.”
According to both Borth and Hughes, many of the calls have been burned to a CD and passed on to the F.B.I. for further investigation.
Borth added that another scammer had targeted a Keyes woman and that case is also being investigated.
