Oklahoma Legislature Passes Key Measures Before Deadline

Oklahoma lawmakers have passed a key
deadline and approved hundreds of bills from the floor, but still
have no agreement on a plan to cut the state income tax.
Last week was the deadline for bills to be heard on the floor in
the house of origin, and this week begins the second round of
committee work in the House and Senate.
There are four major proposals that have passed the House or
Senate to either slash or completely eliminate the state’s personal
income tax, although leaders of the Republican-controlled
Legislature acknowledge there is no consensus on what the final
product may look like.
House Speaker Kris Steele says he expects three-way negotiations
between the House, Senate and governor’s office to begin in the
next two weeks.
