Man Sentenced In Dodge City Bank Robbery

KSCB News - March 13, 2012 9:46 pm

– A California man has been sentenced to 147 months in federal prison for an armed bank robbery in Dodge City.

Angel Garcia Aguirre, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery and one count of brandishing a firearm during the robbery.

In his plea, he admitted that on Oct. 21, 2010, he and another man robbed the Bank of America branch at 2307 Central Avenue.

The other robber jumped over the teller’s counter and took the money while Aguirre stood toward the back of the lobby and brandished a handgun.

Both robbers fled the bank on foot.

On Oct. 22, 2010, investigators confronted Aguirre at a residence in the 1300 block of Sunnyside in Dodge City.

Aguirre attempted to flee by climbing through a window in a back bedroom.

As he attempted to climb over a backyard fence he was spotted by officers and ordered to surrender.

He did not surrender and instead attempted to run back to the house.

Before he could enter the residence he was shot by police officers.

Police recovered a .45 caliber handgun that looked like the firearm brandished in the robbery.
