Liberal City Commission Holds Special Meeting

The Liberal City Commission met Monday evening for a special meeting to discuss the vacancy on the commission created by the death of Commissioner Bob Carlile. After discussion the commission decided open the position for applications. The motion passed 4 – 0. it read this way:

City commission will accept applications for appointment from interested citizens to fill the vacancy created from January 6, 2012 death of city commissioner Bob Carlile. This appointment will be in effect until the first city commission meeting in April 2013. In Dec 2012, 2- 4 year positions and 2- 2 year positions, including this appointment will be open for election. This vacancy is filled through appointment by a majority vote of the city commission. The successful applicant will be sworn into office and officially seated as a city commissioner on Feb 28, 2012.

Applications for the city commission vacancy will be accepted by the city clerk up to 5 pm Wednesday February 22, 2012. Applicants will be interviewed in public on February 23 and 24 if necessary.
