Pratt Tops Saints to Snap 16 Game Conference Losing Streak

KSCB News - April 27, 2009 12:00 am

Seward’s disappointing conference season took another turn for the worse when they split with Pratt Saturday. The Beavers (15-38, 4-26) won their first conference game since March 21 Saturday at Stanion Field in Pratt. Seward won game one 11-1 in six innings and the Beavers broke a 16 game conference losing streak in game two winning 4-1. Sunday’s game one started and was in the bottom of the 1st before storms pounded Pratt and caused the postponement of the games which will be made up Tuesday at Brent Gould Field due to a field too wet for baseball at Pratt. Seward takes sixth in the Jayhawk West. This is the lowest finish in Galen McSpadden’s 28 years as head baseball coach at Seward. In game one, Bobby Doran pitched six strong innings allowing three hits and struck out six. Quay Grant and Keegan Morrow both had three hits in the win. Grant had three RBI’s. Kelby Tomlinson added three RBI’s including a two RBI triple. Seward’s big inning was a five run fourth. In game two, the Saints mustered just two hits in five innings against a pitcher who had an 18.60 ERA coming into the game. The Saints finished with four hits against a staff with an ERA of 9.71. Corey Collings allowed just two earned runs as he falls to 7-3. The Saints will play the third place team from the Jayhawk East on the road Saturday at 1 pm. As of Monday morning, Allen County is in third at 23-11 in the East. They play fourth place Neosho Tuesday. Seward’s post season games will air on Talkradio 1270 and kscb.net.
