McCain Wins With The Kansas Lottery

KSCB News - November 16, 2011 10:58 am

A lucky Liberal resident has claimed the $200,000 Powerball cash prize from the November 12 drawing. Destiny McCain, 33, purchased a $1 Quick Pick ticket and matched the first five numbers, winning the cash prize. The winning numbers were 04-35-36-51-56 Powerball 08. McCain’s winning numbers were 04-35-36-51-56 Powerball 17.

Although McCain was one number away from winning the Powerball jackpot, she is very thankful to have won $200,000.

“I’m a single mother of four kids,” said McCain. “Last Friday, I was praying for help. My daughter needs extensive dental work and since I don’t have insurance, I didn’t know what I was going to do.”

McCain, who works as a bartender at a local VFW, had a customer Saturday evening who played the Kansas Lottery’s Fast 5s game. The Fast 5s option gives players $1 each of Powerball, Mega Millions, Hot Lotto, 2by2, and Super Kansas Cash.

“I usually play Keno, but a lot of customers like the Fast 5 option, so I thought I would give it a try,” explained McCain. “The next day, I checked my tickets and couldn’t believe what I was seeing when I checked my Powerball ticket. I was so shocked, I asked the Auxiliary President to come take a look at my ticket. He recommended I sign the back of my ticket and put it in the safe until I could claim my prize, which is what I did.”

After waiting a couple of days for a day off, McCain made the trip to the Kansas Lottery’s Great Bend office yesterday to claim her prize.

“This is such a blessing,” said McCain. “It takes the pressure off. Now my daughter can get her dental work done.”

In addition to the dental work, McCain plans to open a college fund for her four children and attend college herself in January.

The winning ticket was purchased at VFW 3166, located at 7569 Rd. 3 in Liberal.
