Recent Rains Help Top Soil Moisture

KSCB News - November 15, 2011 8:03 am

Drenching rains across most of Kansas last
week have "improved considerably" topsoil moisture conditions.
The Kansas Agricultural Statistics Service reported Monday this
is the first week since the end of June topsoil moisture has been
rated as greater than 50 percent adequate.
That has helped give the emerging Kansas winter wheat crop a
good soaking with 94 percent of the wheat now up. The agency rated
6 percent of the crop as excellent and 40 percent as good. An
additional 42 percent was in fair condition and 12 percent was in
poor to very poor condition.
Just 2 percent of the corn and 4 percent of the soybeans remain
to be harvested in Kansas.
The sorghum harvest is 89 percent complete.
