KSCB News - November 14, 2011 3:16 pm

On Friday, November 11, 2011, at about 6:54 p.m., a Liberal Police officer responded to a residence in the 800 block of South New York Avenue for a report of a stolen vehicle. A 39 year old female reported her sport utility vehicle was stolen by her 30 year old estranged husband.

At about 11:00 p.m., the vehicle was located in the alley at the Unit block of South Clay Avenue. Officers conducting surveillance at the recovery scene witnessed someone enter the recovered stolen vehicle. Two subjects ran when confronted by officers. After a brief foot pursuit, two males, ages 18 and 15, were taken into custody.

Investigating officers determined the two males were not connected to the original auto theft. Both males were arrested and charged with burglary to auto, theft, obstruct legal process and conspiracy.

An arrest warrant is being sought against the victim’s husband for auto theft.
