Cattle Drive To Go Through Downtown Wichita

KSCB News - September 30, 2011 8:18 am

A cattle drive down Main Street through
downtown Wichita will be reminiscent of the state’s cattle heritage
as Kansas celebrates its 150th birthday.
Kansas Livestock Association will drive 30 of the trophy
longhorn steers as part of the Kansas Sunflower Parade on Oct. 8.
Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback plans to be on horseback ahead of the
herd. Several KLA members will be among the outriders driving the
longhorns in the parade, and a trail-drive era wagon will follow
the cattle.
The longhorns come from a ranch in Woodward, Okla. The cattle
have led large parades in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Greeley, Colo., and
have been used in at least one movie.
The Sunflower Parade is part of the daylong birthday celebration
in Wichita.
