Sunday Sundae Concert set for 2 p.m. Sunday Oct. 2

KSCB News - September 26, 2011 10:58 am

The public is invited for musical and ice cream treats as the Southwest Symphony opens the season with its “Sunday Sundae Concert” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Baker Arts Center, 624 N. Pershing. There is no admission charge but a free will donation will be accepted and memberships may be renewed at this time.

“The concert will be held outdoors if the weather is nice, so bring your lawn chairs, said Grant Mathews, Symphony conductor. “If the weather is bad, we’ll move inside.”

In addition to performances by soloists and small ensembles, the concert will also feature vocal solos by Magda Silva, coloratura soprano. “She has a magnificent voice,” said Kay Burtzloff, president of Southwest Symphony Society, “and we’re fortunate to have such a talent in our community and on our symphony board of directors.”

The Southwest Symphony Society will provide ice-cream and a variety of toppings for the concert attendees to enjoy as well as cookies and drinks.

There will be a short annual membership meeting at the concert. "We have to have an annual meeting every year and we find that it works really well in conjunction with this concert. We promise it will only take 10 minutes," said ]Burtzloff.

The Southwest Symphony Society is a Liberal non-profit organization dedicated to promoting classical and contemporary music in the community utilizing the talents of local and professional musicians. For more information, contact Burtzloff at 629-0203.
