Chili Cook Off Benefits Big Brothers Big Sisters and Whirlwind

Seward County Broadcasting officials say last weekend’s Chili Cookoff was another big success. The cook off brought a lot of people to Bluebonnet Park for the Liberal Chamber of Commerce’s Duck Race Festival and it raised money for two good causes. KSCB sold 360 tasting kits and had 16 Chili cooking teams competing for the Dunlap Trophy. The cookoff raised 600 dollars for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Seward, Haskell, and Stevens County and 600 dollars for Whirlwind Career Counseling for Veterans.

In the Firefighters Chili Challenge sponsored by Southern Pioneer and United Wireless, The Moscow Fire Dept. took 4th place and $50.00, 3rd place and $100.00 went to the Liberal Firefighters, The Turpin Fire Dept.walked away with $150.00 and 2nd place, with the Beaver Fire Dept. taking 1st place, $200.00 and the Firefighter Chili Challenge Trophy.

In the KSCB Chili Cook-Off, The SIFE group won Best Presentation, while the Liberal Fire Department won Peoples Choice. The Mosaic Chili took 3rd Place and $50.00, SIFE won $150.00 and 2nd place, and walking away with top honors, the Dunlap Travelling Trophy, and $250.00 was the American Cancer Society Chili from Turpin. Overall the Seward County Broadcasting crew felt the event was a huge success, and would like to thank all the sponsors, volunteers, those who made donations, and all that came out to support the annual event.
