State Fair Recovers Momentum

KSCB News - September 6, 2011 5:46 am

HUTCHINSON, Kan. (AP) – Ten years after the Sept. 11 terrorist

attacks brought an emotional and economic pall to the Kansas State

Fair, officials say the event has healed from the fallout.

The fair was five days into its run when the terrorist attacks

occurred. Fair officials decided not to close down but some events

were canceled.

Fair manager Denny Stoecklin says crowd numbers dropped

dramatically after the attacks. Attendance has gradually climbed

every year, reaching 354,184 last year.

The Wichita Eagle reports that this year’s fair, which starts

Friday in Hutchinson, plans several events to commemorate the 9/11

attacks.
